once upon a time i stumbled across this
marvelous illustration in a library book: [link]
i've since nicknamed her "the horrible owl lady"
and she's basically my favorite thing ever.

it recently occurred to me that i should draw
some of my own owl-people. & here they are!

buy prints here: [link]

thanks very much to `emmil & ^savagebinn for the DD, and to everyone else for the support!

edit:
the illustrator responsible for the inspiring owl-lady image, it turns out, is j. j. grandville / jean ignace isidore, b. 1803. :]

thanks for commenting, i'm glad to know that i can be an inspiration~

i know what you mean about anime getting boring, as i used to draw it too. it's great for getting started with art and can teach you a lot about proportion, technique, shading, etc -- but if it's the only thing you draw, as it is for many people, it can quickly become limiting. it's good that you're thinking about branching out into realism; i advocate trying as many styles of art as possible, personally.

Oh my god. This just might be the most fantastic thing I've ever seen. It looks like a lithograph from an old children's book. What an amazing find, and brilliant rendition (as always)!
